Students will study the National Electrical Code (NEC). The NEC covers best practices and requirements associated with installations at various dwellings, from residential housing, commercial properties, and special occupancies. Students will be able to recognize industry standards and any electrical code violations.

ELECT 154     Blueprint Reading and Rigging     4 Units

Students will learn blueprint reading, troubleshooting electrical systems, and rigging. This course will cover fundamental skills for sketching and reading accurate blueprints required to safely install and troubleshoot various electrical systems. Topics covered include fire alarm systems, security systems, HVAC, residential/commercial areas, and troubleshooting common scenarios experienced in the field. Students will also learn proper and safe methods for rigging, digging, and using motorized tools.

ELECT 155     Low Voltage Specialty Systems     4 Units

Students will learn low voltage specialty systems, including fire alarms; security alarms; voice, data, TV, signaling systems; lightning protection systems; and fiber optic systems. This course will teach students foundational knowledge and skills required to appropriately install, wire, and troubleshoot various types of the low voltage specialty system types. The students will also apply specific National Electric Code requirements for these low voltage specialty system types.
