HUMNT 001     Introduction to Visual and Performing Arts     3 Units

Students will be introduced to the basic conceptual vocabulary used in the perception and descriptive analysis of dance, music, theater, and visual art in this interdisciplinary course. Students will use these concepts to interpret art objects in the artist's context and the perceiver's context. Examples presented are chosen for their artistic integrity and cultural diversity. Field trips at live art events may be required.

Students are introduced to a variety of literary works from around the world, from the mid or late 17th century to the present, which are significant in illuminating both the universality and diversity of the human experience. Readings in this course are chosen for their literary, historical, cultural, philosophical, and psychological importance. (C-ID ENGL 145)

HUMNT 003     Introduction to Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies     3 Units

Students are introduced to the origins, purpose, subject matter, and methods of Women's Studies and to feminist perspectives on a range of social issues affecting women of diverse backgrounds. This is an interdisciplinary course that incorporates American and global perspectives from various disciplines pertaining to women. Study of gender and its intersections with race, class, sexuality, disability, age, religion, fine arts, and other systems of difference. (C-ID SJS 120)
