Ironworking - Certificate of Achievement Level 1
San José City College offers a Certificate of Achievement in Ironworking. This apprenticeship program is designed to develop appreciation, knowledge, and skills essential for employment in the Ironworking Industry. These courses are part of a series of course completions that may lead to a career as a Journeyman Ironworker. Instruction includes both theory and practical work in the safe use of tools and equipment to perform various tasks.
A grade of "C" or better is required for each course in the major or area of emphasis. A "p" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major or area of emphasis if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Solve typical problems of the construction trade with facility and speed by applying the appropriate rudiments of mathematics.
- Demonstrate safe working practices and procedures at the work site.
- Explain OSHA requirements for welding and cutting.
- Apply safe handling procedures for hoisting, transporting, unloading, and erecting of precast concrete and metal buildings.
- Demonstrate the different uses and types of welding, including gas (oxy-acetylene) arc, gas-shielded, and resistance welding, and specific welding equipment and machines.
