Learning Resources
César E. Chávez Library
The library offers a wide variety of resources, including books, periodicals, reference materials, and audiovisual media. Online databases, e-books, and the library catalog are accessible 24/7 both on and off-campus. The library also houses a large reserves collection of textbooks and instructor materials. The SJCC or EVC Student ID card serves as a library card; materials can be borrowed from both libraries or through interlibrary loan services.
The library features an electronic research area that provides computers, photocopiers, and printing systems. The library also makes available audiovisual equipment, such as DVD/CD players and VCR stations. Study areas are found throughout the library, and many private study rooms for groups of two or more students are located on the third floor. Laptop computers can be checked out for use in the study rooms, and Wi-Fi is available throughout.
Reference librarians provide instruction on research methods and assist students in locating information.

The Learning Resource Center
The LRC, located on the first floor of the César E. Chavez Library Building, supports SJCC students by providing a comfortable, friendly, supportive, and accessible environment where they can work independently in the open computer lab (equipped with Microsoft Office, internet, and printer access), or receive one-on-one assistance from trained peer tutors and instructors in a variety of subjects including math, writing, reading, and the sciences, in designated tutoring areas. Additionally, the Reading & Writing area of the LRC has earned international certification from the College Reading & Learning Association for its tutoring program.
To be eligible for tutoring help, students must be taking at least one academic course at SJCC, and enroll in LS 210 (Learning Skills Supervised Tutoring, no fee or units).
Assistance with enrollment is offered at the LRC’s check-in desk.
The LRC Tutoring areas include:
- Drop-in and scheduled appointment assistance
- Resources to improve skills such as handouts, textbooks, and practice exercises
- Computers with Microsoft Office, internet, and printer access
- Workshops on areas of student need, such as writing personal statements

Computer Lab
The Computer Lab is open to all registered San José City College students and staff. The Computer Lab is equipped with computers open for students, faculty, and staff with some designated specifically for ESL students and tutoring. Printers are available for student use. Students also have access to the Internet and Microsoft Office.
ESL Lab
The ESL Lab provides a supportive learning environment for ESL students. ESL faculty are available to assist students with all English language skills and to offer guidance in using interactive software programs and multimedia materials that expand and enhance learning. ESL Lab courses (.5 units) are required for students enrolled in ESL 312 and ESL 322. The optional 0-unit ESL 208 lab course may be taken with any San Jose City College course, including other ESL courses. Students are also welcome to use our online lab, www.ESLStation.net, to access learning links for each language skill across all levels of the ESL curriculum.

Technology Labs
A variety of technology-rich computer labs support students in technology-intensive programs such as Cisco Academy, Network Administration, Computer Programming, Multimedia/ Digital Arts, and Getting Started computer classes. Labs are staffed with instructors and instructional assistants and have limited open hours in day and evening. Applied technology labs include Program Logic Control (PLC), Laser Lab, Master CAM lab, HVAC and Framing labs that support Facilities Maintenance Technology (FMT), Laser Tech, Machine Technology, Air Conditioning, and Construction Technology programs. In addition, Solar program provides hands on courtyard lab experiences for solar installations.
