GLOBL 001 Introduction to Global Studies 3 Units
Students are introduced to the emerging field of Global Studies. Students gain an interdisciplinary view of globalization and global perspectives that include consideration of social, cultural, religious, political, and geographical factors that affect the world community. Significant economic trends and environmental issues are addressed.

GLOBL 002 Global Issues 3 Units
Students are introduced to the origins, current status, and future trends of major transnational issues confronting the global community. They will study current world population trends, and explore meeting human needs for food, water, energy, and health care. Issues addressed include human rights, global inequality, international conflict and security concerns, environmental problems and our collective global responsibility to future generations.

GLOBL 003 Introduction to Sustainability 3 Units
Students will acquire knowledge about sustainability theories and practices. The course adopts a cross-disciplinary approach and focuses on how societies can meet present human needs without adversely effecting future generations. Topics addressed include but are not limited to planetary boundaries, sustainability practices, cultural and religious precepts, the United Nations sustainability goals and the various roles that government, business and individuals might play in the realization of such goals.

GLOBL 007 Global Citizenship/Civics 3 Units
Students will acquire knowledge and skills to gain a better understanding of multicultural perspectives on national and transnational political issues, the global economy, and worldwide social development. Students, as global citizens, will be encouraged to envision and effect positive change in their communities and develop an understanding of how local, national, and global challenges affect them, and how their actions affect others in the world.

GLOBL 012 World Regions in Global Context 3 Units
Students are introduced to the world's cultural regions and nations as interpreted by geographers, including physical, cultural, and economic features. Spatial and historical influences on population growth, transportation networks, and natural environments are discussed. Identification and importance of the significant features of regions and their relationship to their respective cultures, economies, topography, climate, politics, and environmental issues are examined. GLOBL 098 Directed Study 0.5-9 Units
Individual or small groups of students, with previous course work in the discipline, who would benefit from Independent Study under the direction of faculty members in specific or related disciplines, may develop individualized learning contracts designed to enhance their individual instructional programs. The students and the faculty member in consultation with the Division Dean will determine appropriate learning objectives and activities as well as the numbers of units to be earned. Instructions and the Learning Contract forms are available in the Division Office. Repeatable to a maximum of 9 units across all disciplines.
