Public Health - Associate in Science for Transfer
The Associate in Science in Public Health for Transfer (AS-T) degree provides students with a solid foundation in public health and the health sciences in preparation for transfer to a four-year institution. Successful completion of the AS-T degree satisfies lower division requirements and guarantees admission to the California State University (CSU) system (though not to a particular campus or major). The AS-T degree in Public Health is designed to prepare those students interested in majoring in biology, health science, or public health. It is also designed to prepare students that are considering careers in health sciences, healthcare, medicine, and similar research fields for transfer.
To be awarded the Associate in Science for Transfer degree in Public Health, students must:
(1) Complete 60 semester units or 90 quarter units which are eligible for transfer to the California State University (CSU) system, including both of the following:
(A) The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) Requirements.
(B) A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
(2) Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
While a minimum of 2.0 is required for admission, some majors may require a higher GPA. Please consult with a counselor for more information.
Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) also require that students must earn a “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A "P" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a “pass/no pass” basis.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Apply a public health equity framework to support the health and well-being of diverse communities.
- Access, interpret, and analyze health data and evidence-based research to understand and improve community health.
- Apply human biology and chemistry principles to address challenges to public health.
