Health Sciences - Associate in Arts
San José City College offers an Associate in Arts (AA) Health Sciences. The Health Sciences program will provide students with a strong foundation in human anatomy, human physiology, and microbiology. The courses in this certificate are the common prerequisites for community college and university health occupations majors including nursing, respiratory therapy, radiological science, physical therapy, occupational health, dental assistant, and dental hygiene.
A grade of "C" or better is required for each course in the major or area of emphasis. A "P" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major or area of emphasis if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Describe the structure and function of the cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems of the human body.
- Examine how the body maintains homeostasis and predict how it will respond when compensating for deviations from homeostasis.
- Investigate how microorganisms interact with the human body and examine how these interactions lead to health or human disease.
