Associate Degree Requirements
AA-T and AS-T Degree Requirements
- Complete required major courses with a grade of "C" or better. A "P" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a "Pass/No Pass" basis;
- Complete a minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis (see specific degree courses and units);
- Earn a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0;
- Complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements or the California State University General Education-Breadth requirements (CSU GE) as stated for each specific AA-T or AS-T;
- Complete a minimum of 60 CSU transferable semester units;
- Complete a minimum of 12 semester units In Residence within the College District with at least, two (2) courses (minimum of six [6] semester units total) at SJCC.
Associate in Arts (AA) Degree Requirements
- Complete required major courses with a grade of "C" or better. A "P" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a "Pass/No Pass" basis;
- Complete a minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis (see specific degree courses and units);
- Earn a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0;
- Complete the AA General Education (GE) pattern with a minimum of 39 semester units;
- Complete a minimum of 60 AA degree applicable semester units;
- Complete a minimum of 12 semester units In Residence within the College District with at least, two (2) courses (minimum of six [6] semester units total) at SJCC;
- Other Course Requirements:
- Complete two courses for the US History, Constitution, and American Ideals (US-1, US-2, and US-3 as defined by the CSU system);
- Complete one course that is approved for Cultural Pluralism/Ethnic Studies or one course that is approved for Area F on the AA GE pattern;
- Complete a Physical Activity course (minimum 1 semester unit) that is approved for Area E on the AA GE Pattern.
Associate in Science (AS) Degree Requirements
- Complete required major courses with a grade of "C" or better. A "P" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a "Pass/No Pass" basis;
- Complete a minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis (see specific degree courses and units);
- Earn a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0;
- Complete the AS General Education (GE) pattern with a minimum of 24 semester units;
- Complete a minimum of 60 AS degree applicable semester units;
- Complete a minimum of 12 semester units In Residence within the College District with at least, two (2) courses (minimum of six [6] semester units total) at SJCC;
- Other Course Requirements:
- Complete two courses for the US History, Constitution, and American Ideals (US-1, US-2, and US-3 as defined by the CSU system);
- Complete one course that is approved for Cultural Pluralism/Ethnic Studies;

- Math Competency may be met by completion of one of the following (with official documentation):
- Completion of MATH 013 (Intermediate Algebra), MATH 013A+013B (Intermediate Algebra), MATH014 (Geometry), or the equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university with a grade of "C" or better
- Completion of any higher level mathematics course with a prerequisite of Intermediate Algebra or the equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university with a grade of "C" or better
- Completion of two semesters of high school Algebra II with a grade of "C" or better on high school transcripts in each semester or the equivalent
- A score of 3 or higher on one of the following Advanced Placement (AP) exams: Statistics, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Calculus BC/AB Subscore, or Computer Science Principles (if taken Fall 2019 and later)
- A score of 4 or higher on the International Baccalaureate (IB) exam in Mathematics HL
- A passing College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam score that meets CSU GE Area B4 as stated within this catalog
- A proficiency score on the SAT Math Test or the ACT Math Test, currently meeting scores of SAT 520 and above and ACT 24 and above or the equivalent from previous SAT/ACT test scoring
- Demonstration of mathematics competency from previously offered California Community College assessment placement results
- *Students with disabilities who have severe functional limitations related to a competency area, may be eligible for a course substitution or waiver (as referenced in BP5141, AP5141). Please consult with the SAS department.
Students who have a bachelor's or higher degree will have their General Education and Other Course Requirements waived by satisfying the following:
- Submit an official transcript showing completion of a bachelor’s or higher degree from an university that is accredited by one of the seven accrediting organizations that were previously termed “regional”;
- Complete the requirements as set forth in the new major or area of emphasis with a grade of "C" or better. A "P" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a "Pass/No Pass" basis;
- Complete a minimum of 12 semester units In Residence within the College District with at least, two (2) courses (minimum of six [6] semester units total) at SJCC.
