Admission Requirements for Transfer to California state University (CSU)

To establish eligibility for CSU as a junior-level transfer, students must:

  • Complete 60 CSU transferable units;
  • Earn a GPA of 2.0 or higher in all transferable units;
  • Be in good standing at the last college/university attended; Complete at least 30 units of the GE requirements with a grade of ‘C’ or better. The 30 units must include:
  • Three (3) courses in English Language Communication and Critical Thinking - Oral Communication, Written Composition, and Critical Thinking (Cal-GETC Area 1A, 1B, 1C) all with a grade of ‘C’ or better, 
  • One course (1) in transferable mathematics from Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning (Cal-GETC Area 2) with a grade of ‘C’ or better;
  • Complete GE Requirements

Notes: Competitive/selective campuses and/or majors may have higher/additional requirements; non-residents require a higher admissions GPA.

Some CSU campuses may consider students who have completed fewer than 60 transferable units as Lower Division Transfers (LDT)

To be consider as a LDT student at a CSU, you must meet the following prior to transfer:

  • Area 1A - English composition;
  • Area 2 - Mathematical concepts/quantitative reasoning;

     
  • Earn a GPA of 2.0 or higher in all transferable units;
  • Be in good standing at the last college/university attended;
  • Meet the admission requirements for a first-time freshman "A-G' course requirements or have successfully completed necessary courses to make up high school deficiencies;
  • Meet the CSU admissions eligibility requirements required of a first-time freshman;
  • Follow the Cal-GETC pattern.

Priority Application Filing Dates for CSU 

Summer Term: February 1-28 of that year
Fall Semester or Quarter: October 1 - November 30
Winter Quarter: June 1 - 30 of previous year
Spring Semester or Quarter: August 1 - 31
