Communication Studies 2.0 - Associate in Arts for Transfer
The Associate in Arts degree for Transfer (AA-T) in Communication Studies 2.0 meets the lower division course requirements necessary for the California State University (CSU) system. Communication Studies 2.0 will immerse students into the study of human communication. It includes public speaking, argumentation, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and small group communication. The importance of communication awareness, training, and skills are essential for successful and fulfilling personal, professional, and academic relationships and endeavors. Communication skills, theory, and practice are useful in any career including: education, business management, communication management, journalism, law enforcement, mass media and media arts, political science, public policy and administration, social work, public relations, advertising, broadcasting, technology, and finance.
To be awarded the Associate in Arts in Communication Studies 2.0 for Transfer degree, students must:
(1) Complete 60 semester units or 90 quarter units which are eligible for transfer to the California State University (CSU) system, including both of the following:
(A) The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) Requirements.
(B) A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
(2) Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
While a minimum of 2.0 is required for admission, some majors may require a higher GPA. Please consult with a counselor for more information.
Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) also require that students must earn a “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A "P" (Pass) grade is an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a “pass/no pass” basis.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Analyze verbal and nonverbal communication through active listening skills.
- Analyze the importance of diversity, differing belief and value systems, and civic responsibility through intercultural communication.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills that can be applied to personal and professional relationships.
- Demonstrate applied communication skills that can be utilized in professional settings.
