About the Program
The Associate in Arts in Spanish for Transfer (AA-T) degree meets the lower division course requirements necessary for the California State University (CSU) system. The Spanish program includes courses focused on the knowledge and competence needed to communicate in Spanish at an intermediate to advanced level. In pursuing the Associate in Arts in Spanish for Transfer degree, students acquire skills through active participation in classroom activities, and exposure to the language and culture of Spanish-speaking communities around the world. Students majoring in Spanish develop critical thinking, problem solving, and written and verbal communication skills. As Spanish majors, students have learning opportunities that are relevant to many types of careers including language instruction, translation and interpretation, international relations, and global business.
Degree Completion
The Associate in Arts in Spanish for Transfer degree will be awarded upon completion of coursework totaling 60 California State University (CSU) transferable units including the major requirements and the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or California State University General Education (CSU GE) requirements with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. All courses in the major must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.
To be awarded the Associate in Arts in Spanish for Transfer degree, students must:
(1) Complete 60 semester units or 90 quarter units which are eligible for transfer to the California State University (CSU) system, including both of the following:
(A) The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education – Breadth Requirements.
(B) A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
(2) Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) also require that students must earn a “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis.
