Certification of General Education for Transfer to CSU and UC
Cal-GETC Certification
The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) is the singular general education pathway for California Community College (CCC) students to fulfill lower-division general education requirements necessary for transfer and admission to both the California State University (CSU) and the University of California (UC). Cal-GETC Certification is a document provided by a CCC to verify that all courses and requirements have been completed for this general education pathway.
Students transferring to a CSU who have completed an ADT with Cal-GETC do not need to request GE Certification. The ADT degree listed on your official transcript automatically serves as your GE Certification.
If you’ve attended multiple California Community Colleges (CCC), you should have your coursework certified by the last CCC you attended during a regular term (fall or spring for semester-based schools, or fall, winter, or spring for quarter-based schools) before transferring. If you wish to receive GE Certification from a CCC other than the one you last attended, it is at the discretion of that CCC whether they will certify your coursework.
Courses completed before Fall 2025 that fulfill IGETC requirements may also be counted toward Cal-GETC Certification, provided they are approved for the same area, excluding Area 1C. All courses must be completed with grades of "C" or better.
Cal-GETC Certification must be requested by the student after being accepted to a CSU or UC campus. To obtain this certification, students need to submit a request form to the SJCC Admissions & Records (A&R) Office. For clarification on which courses meet the Cal-GETC Certification Requirements, refer to ASSIST.org or consult a counselor.
