Assessment and Advisement/Counseling Information
San Jose City College is committed to student success. New, first-time college students must complete a self-guided assessment in English or English as a Second Language and Mathematics if they plan to earn an associate degree and/or transfer to a four-year college or university.
- Self-Guided Placement: San Jose City College offers Guided-Self Placement Sessions for students who would like to enroll in our English as a Second Language classes. These classes are designed for students who feel they need additional language acquisition support. The college uses placement results for course placement purposes only. The results are not used to prevent any student from enrolling and/or attending San Jose City College. Counselors at SJCC will use these results along with other information to help students decide on a program of courses.
- ESL Assessment: We continue to offer English as a Second Language (ESL) placement testing for students who feel they need additional language acquisition support. Placement test results are used for course placement purposes only. They are not used to prevent any student from enrolling and/or attending San Jose City College. Counselors at SJCC will use these results along with other information to help students decide on a program of courses.
